On the auspicious occasion of World Environment Day-5th June 2006, Nepal River Conservation Trust (NRCT) organized the opening ceremony (cleanup campaign) at Pashupatinath.

STN members, locals, Students from environmental science, representatives from NGO(s), officials from Kathmandu Metropolitan city and media people actively took part in the cleanup program. The festival which started from 5 June will last till 20 August 2006 with variety of programs including cleaning campaign, plantation program, rafting competition, Heritage walk, art competition, stage drama, workshops bird watching, cycle rally with slogan reduce plastic, fund raising concerts etc.

The main objective of organizing such event is to draw public attention to the critically degraded condition of the Bagmati River .

he opening ceremony of the festival was done in the religious way by inviting four priest of different religion including Bharhmin, Lama, Christian, and Islam for the religious harmony.
