"They owe much to the calmed political situation. The civilian government has been restored, the Maoists have signed a peace treaty, and democratic elections are scheduled for later this year. As a result, several airlines resumed service or began new routes to Katmandu last year. Hotels report surges in bookings. And the streets of the city where raging protests once flared are again humming with bicycle rickshaws, sacred cows and beat-up taxis ferrying international visitors to the numerous World Heritage Sites in and around the capital city. | 25,000 British nationals visited Nepal in 2007 |
| |
"25,000 British nationals visited Nepal in 2007 (source: Nepal Tourist Board). Most visits were trouble free. The main types of incident for which British nationals required consular assistance in Nepal in 2007 were: replacing lost and stolen passports; arrests, mainly drug-related; and hospitalisations, generally as a result of trekking accidents. You are strongly advised to use a reputable travel agent and only trek with an experienced guide and in a group."

" Namaste from Nepal! After spending almost a month in Nepal we were sorry to leave this friendly country with its friendly people, fascinating mountains and excellent cuisine. As many people nowadays we had some concerns about the safety before we arrived but it turned out quickly that press exaggerated the situation. We have never experienced hostility towards foreigners, quite the opposite, everybody was very friendly and helpful. "

| |
Two French trekkers, Rene-Tomio, 62 and Jacques-Cordola, 56, traveled from Kanchanjunga to Dhaulagiri, the two ends of the Himalayan range stretching from the eastern to the western parts of Nepal. According to the trekkers, the trip was more than an adventure; they were trying to send a message to the mountaineering and trekking community.
